About the event
FRAMED #91 Shaping Sounds is an interdisciplinary project bringing together extraordinary Berlin-based artists: British saxophonist and composer Emma Rawicz; double bassist Haggai Cohen-Milo; drummer Amir Bresler; and Swedish sculptor Ricard Larsson. It will premiere on 18 April 2026 at the Uferhallen in Larsson’s studio, a space that resembles a living sculpture in itself. The high ceiling lets in plenty of light, which falls on a large quantity of black wax. This creates a special atmosphere in which art and music merge uniquely. The musicality of Larsson’s working method, its open and improvised nature, and the ‘sonic presence’ of his sculptures form the basis of this interdisciplinary project. At the same time, the project addresses the suffering and destruction that humanity is capable of inflicting on an unprecedented scale through its technology.

MUSIC: LIGHTBOX
Berlin-based, no-nonsense band featuring three of the city’s most prominent jazz band-leaders as one collective. With LIGHTBOX, sax player Emma Rawicz, bassist Haggai Cohen-Milo and drummer Amir Bresler bring forth a jazz sound that is direct, dry and unapologetic. The music is focused on groove and melody, the sound is full of air and lightness. The band is free, playing with the available space, stretching and contracting with a flow of ideas where trust and friendship dictate the boundaries.
Emma Rawicz is a saxophonist, composer, and bandleader. At 22, she is one of the most outstanding voices on the international jazz scene. At 19, she released her debut album Incantation and toured the UK. In 2023, she followed up with her label debut Chroma on ACT, which was internationally acclaimed and named Album of the Month by The Guardian. She has performed in over 15 countries and received awards such as the Parliamentary Jazz Award and the Musician’s Company Silver Medal from the Royal Academy of Music. Rawicz leads her own quartet, tours in duos with pianist Gwilym Simcock, and conducts a 20-piece jazz orchestra. She has performed with the BBC Concert Orchestra and the SWR Big Band, among others, and is in demand internationally as an educator and masterclass leader.
Haggai Cohen-Milo is a virtuoso double bassist and composer with a strong focus on interdisciplinary performance. For over ten years, he has been working with dancers and choreographers to combine sound, movement, and visual art. He composes music for dance, theater, and film, and also releases his own projects. In 2018, he won the ECHO Jazz Award with the Omer Klein Trio, of which he has been a member since 2010. In 2019, he became the musical curator of FRAMED Berlin. As an internationally sought-after musician, he tours and produces worldwide and has contributed to over 30 albums. Born in Israel, he studied at the New England Conservatory in Boston and has lived in Berlin since 2017.
Amir Bresler is a sought-after jazz drummer and session musician. Known for his energetic and versatile performances, he plays almost every night in jazz clubs and bars in Tel Aviv with different bands, ranging from funk and prog jazz to psych folk, alt soul, and rock ‘n’ roll. Since his first encounter with jazz at age 15 at the Thelma Yellin National High School of the Arts in Givataim, he has been touring with leading musicians, including the legendary bassist Avishai Cohen. Today, Amir is one of the most sought-after drummers in the Middle East, known for his distinctive groove that never fails to captivate audiences. After completing his military service, he performed at festivals in Israel and internationally.

ART: Ricard Larsson
Ricard Larsson was born in Stockholm in 1953. He lived and worked in his studio near Florence for many years before moving to Berlin and setting up his studio in the Uferhallen. There, he has devoted himself intensively to developing his art for over 20 years and has created his own artistic universe in this space. The rhythm of Larsson’s work is strongly determined by his materials, especially wax. He only has about five minutes to shape the material before it solidifies. Upon closer inspection, one can see the fingerprints that Larsson literally leaves behind in his sculptures. The traces of pressing and kneading make the creative intuition that guides his work visible to the viewer.
