This July the first edition of FRAMED FEST will premiere site-specific concerts, performances and workshops as well as an exhibition of poems, held in Wasserturm (Prenzlauer Berg), Berlin’s oldest water tower that was the first water source for the city, a coal warehouse, and a shelter during World War II. The intricacies of its story can be felt upon entering the room — underground, cool and dark, with remnants of water and life — rendering itself a concrete reference of the potential for transformation. This space and its potential have been inspirational to FRAMED and as such the festival and program have been designed to reflect the relationship between the artists and performers and the physical space. FRAMED commissioned world class artists to create hour-long performances that will feature duets, performing together for the very first time.
In addition, in effort to break down the barrier between the artist and the audience, every day from 12h-16h Wasserturm will be open to the public, allowing visitors to see rehearsals and works in progress. Understanding what it takes to create a work of art will educate the public and emphasize the importance of creativity in transforming a space — not only as a place to present works, but as a source of inspiration for the work itself.
